Stroud U11s v Dursley
Result 0 - 20
Stroud tasted their first competitive games at U11 level at the Dursley Festival on Sunday.
They were once again drawn against strong opposition first up in Cirencester but were not outclassed. In the first half they were under pressure as they found their feet and conceded the only two tries of the match. A strong defensive display in the second half meant that Ciren could not add to the score, however Stroud did not threaten the try line. There was strong tackling from all the boys, especially Jack Cullimore who was later to be awarded try of the day for a try saving tackle at the death.
Against Painswick, Stroud almost scored an excellent try but Joe Ashenford was shunted into touch near the tryline. The resultant lineout saw Painswick go the length of the pitch to score the only try of the game.
Next up was the team performance of the day against Malvern. The boys remembered that their best game is an expansive passing one and when the backs, Oliver Greensweig at scrum half, Joe Ashenford at flyhalf and John Butcher, fullback, combined, tries were scored a plenty. Excellent forward play from Dom Butcher, hooker, Aaran Raith, prop and Harry Pavis & Konah Dyer, secured ball all game and resulted in tries for both of the Butcher twins in the game.
Finally, an extra game was arranged against Dursley. This proved a game too far but they boys did not give up, and the tackles continued to come in thick and fast, Harry Ward, Fraser and Ben Pope all tried their best.
The team were awarded 4th place in the tournament and were all presented with medals for their efforts.
