Stroud Under 8s v Berry Hill Under 8s

Sunday 24th February saw Berry Hill welcomed to Fromehall Park for three evenly matched, good natured games.  Both teams played well and mutual support was given.

Stroud 20  Berry Hill 20

Stroud's game began well with a series of great passes.  Excellent tagging from Liberty Travis and Harry Ireland along with great support play from Paddy Shipton, Angus McDowall and Chris Lusty resulted in a magnificent try scored by Harry Lightfoot after a great run from the half-way line.  Despite good defending, however, Berry Hill came back in the scoring.  The team began to gel together and passed along the line to set up Sam Hanahoe to score.  After half time, Sam Hanahoe immediately came back, running the width of the pitch to score his second of the game.  A cracking long pass from Matthew Cullimore enabled Harry Lightfoot another speedy run to even the scores at 4 tries each.

Stroud 25  Berry Hill 15

Another well matched game began with great tagging from William Frusher, Matthew Cullimore and Angus McDowall to save near tries from Berry Hill.  Sam Hanahoe and Chris Lusty added their skills to some fantastic defensive play.  Further accurate passing from Lewis Glover, Harry McNeil and Liberty Travis resulted in a try by Matt Cullimore who went on to score another after a weaving run.  The second half opened with Matt Cullimore's third of the game after a long run and last minute pass from Harry Lightfoot.  Good tagging from Angus McDowall and Paddy Shipton and great team play enabled Harry Ireland to score a great try.  The match ended on a high with Lewis Glover scoring after a blistering run from the half-way line.

Stroud 20  Berry Hill 15

This was to be Stroud under 8s best team play so far this season.  They demonstrated their improved skill in all aspects of the game.  In particular their passing and defensive play showed discipline and resolve.  Harry Ireland opened the scoring, closely followed by another try from Matt Cullimore after the great run and quick thinking of Harry Lightfoot.  Harry McNeil began the rapid passing down the line to Chris Lusty on to Lewis Glover and Paddy Shipton, the whole team playing together searching for space and opportunity.  Berry Hill fought back, but were to be denied victory in the second half.  Sam Hanahoe scored a cracking try after a long winding run.  Excellent support play from Angus McDowall and William Frusher set up Sam Hanahoe's fantastic run and score on the whistle.
