The History of Stroud RFC

During the 2003 -04 season we celebrate 130 years at Stroud Rugby Football Club and 125 years playing at Fromehall Park.

The years have seen dramatic changes from the early days when the clubs' headquarters were situated at The Bell Hotel in Wallbridge, Stroud and the players walked from the Hotel to the ground to play. Still, that could be deemed luxurious, reading from a report by former player Joe Wathern in "The History of Stroud Rugby Club", when members of the team in the 1890's talked of walking to Gloucester in the morning, playing in the afternoon and then walking back without enjoying the benefit of any sort of bath. Tell that to the modern players!!!
