Stroud Rugby is delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Viggers as Head Coach for the 2014-15 season.

The appointment follows a re-structuring and re-positioning of the coaching structure at the Gloucester Premier club for the forthcoming season 2014-15.

The former Coventry and Pertemps Bees player, now in his third season at the club since returning has proved that he has the ability, experience and charisma to lead Stroud Rugby forward in this new role.

Sam stated ‘My aim is to play rugby going forward at every opportunity and to get the players to enjoy the game and take a few risks" he went on to say "I am very aware of the challenge ahead, Stroud are a great club, but you are only as good as your last result. We have a youthful side, full of talent and this is a great opportunity to continue re-building the club".

The first challenge for Sam will be to get the players prepared for the new season - Pre-season training starts on Thursday 3rd July at 6.30pm at Fromehall Park. New players welcome.

Sam's playing career includes Stroud, Coventry, Pertemp Bees, Stourbridge, Rugby Lions Gloucestershire, and Ireland Students, and more recently was player coach of Southern Counties North Club, Milton Keynes, before re-joining the playing staff at Stroud in 2012

Dave Spencer has decided to step down as Director of Rugby but will remain on the management team.

Last season Sam shared coaching duties with James Bashford who stepped down from this role at the end of last season but will remain at the club in a playing capacity.

The Management Team extends its thanks to both Dave and James for their hard work and commitment that has seen a turn around in the playing fortunes of the club.
