Nomads on top of Hill

Almost from the kick off Berry Hill transgressed at a ruck and fly half Ian Bushell kicked the resultant penalty.

The Berry Hill pack with former Stroud player Jim Matthews to the fore kept play in the Stroud half for the next ten minutes, but good defence by the Nomads backs and forwards, with man of the match wing forward Rich Brown showing up well in his first game for the Nomads.

A further penalty kick by Ian Bushell gave the Nomads a 6-0 lead just before half time.

The second half gave Stroud the opportunity to blood some new players including centre James Norbury who looked dangerous with the ball in hand.

Berry Hill’s forwards continued to hold sway in the loose and early in the second half their fly half kicked a penalty goal after Stroud were penalised for being offside at a ruck.

With the Nomads threequarters looking dangerous on several occasions, it came as no surprise when James Norbury beat three defenders in a weaving run and scored an unconverted try.

With 2 players from each side then being sin binned Berry Hill drove to the Stroud line and were awarded a try which was converted.

The last few minutes of the match were played in the Berry Hill half with the final whistle bringing a sigh of relief to the Stroud spectators and players.
