Wotton were up for this cup match and it showed from the start with them forcing a number of Stroud errors. The cohesion which has shown for the Nomads so far this season was missing and Wotton kept the pressure on Stroud throughout the first half.
The occasional foray into the Wotton 22 came from full back Jordan Phipps and wing Harry Phillips, but the Nomads failed to capitalise on good field positions. During the first half Wotton made use of the penalty kicks they were awarded by going into a six point lead at halftime.
The second half started badly for the Nomads when a further penalty kick was converted by the Wotton fly half. This spurred Stroud into action and the Wotton try line was laid siege to, but the Nomads were again prevented from making the most of vital possession. With only some 10minutes left Nomads won a scrum near the Wotton line and from the ensuing play No8 Gareth Segelov drove over the line to score the try, converted by scrum half Dave Gee.
Further Nomads pressure led to a succession of penalty kicks being given away by Wotton, and with the last kick of the match Dave Gee converted a penalty kick to win the match.
Wotton can count themselves very unlucky to lose this match, with Nomads hopefully getting this match out of their system, ready for a return to league matches.
