Excellent display by Nomads

The team can take credit from excellent displays from scrum half Joe Ashenford and wing forward Tom Flanagan who was the Nomads match of the match. Play was very even during the first half with Matson always looking dangerous when their threequarters got the ball. However good tackling by in particular Captain Ian Bushell, Cory Baker, Tom Flanagan and hooker Sam Davies kept them out. Not to be denied a good passing movement by the Matson threequarters gave their winger the opportunity to score wide out, the conversion being missed. From the kick off Nomads laid siege to the Matson try line and were rewarded with a penalty kick converted by Joe Ashenford. Soon after a further kickable penalty to Stroud was missed. With the half time whistle beckoning, Matson broke through and their dangerous centre off loaded to his wing who scored in the corner, the Matson fly half converted from the touchline.

Stroud lost Matt Peachman their 2nd Row with what appeared to be concussion, and stalwart prop Andy Stanton came on for most of the second half. Again play was even although missed opportunities by Nomads including another kickable penalty allowed Matson to break out of defence and score their third try, again converted. With time running out scrum half Joe Ashenford made a superb break from inside his own 22 and looked certain to score under the posts, but he was hauled down some five yards out and a great chance was gone. Matson scored their 4th try just before the final whistle and made the score line slightly flattering.

A good run out for the Nomads with once again a much changed team. New wing James Morton having his first game of rugby, showed up well, especially his handling and tackling.
