Nomads 14 stand tall

The opening quarter of the match was fairly even with the much bigger pack of the Spartans team holding the ascendancy. Their opening try came from a strong run from their fly half who gave the winger an easy run to score and convert. Stroud upped the tempo with forwards Lee Marshall, Ollie Kirkham and Nat Cook to the fore, Several good runs by the Nomads backs with captain Chris Toon looking dangerous with ball in hand, unfortunately petered out due to lack of support. Although Spartans had a much heavier pack Nomads managed to win their own ball and stand in scrum half Cory Baker although under extreme pressure had a very tidy game.

The second half was equally even with Nomads once again having several good phases of play with backs and forwards linking well, and from one of these centre Alex Powell picked up a loose ball inside his half and with a determined run was about to score at try when he was illegally tackled and a penalty try awarded, which fly half Jake Marsh converted. Further good play by back row forward Nat Cook nearly resulted in a further try, with him being tackled just short of the line. He was instrumental in a further excellent break only to see his try scoring pass be intercepted just short of the line. With the Stroud forwards beginning to tire, Spartans launched a threequarter movement and some excellent tackling by the Nomads side seemed to have thwarted the danger with the Spartans winger being bundled into touch, a try however was awarded. With the last play of the match Spartans forwards drove in to the Stroud 22 and from the ensuing ruck scored and converted the try.

A good performance from the 14 Nomads players.
