This friendly match played in sunny conditions gave both sides the opportunity to play open rugby writes Chris Skey.

Stroud went straight onto the attack and only good defence by the Drybrook team kept them out. However, not to be denied Nomads were awarded a simple penalty kick which was converted by scrum half Joe Ashenford.

Both sides continued to play open rugby and after some good forward play by Nomads the ball was worked to winger Alex Powell who crashed over in the corner for an unconverted try. Stroud kept up their offensive and a good break by Joe Ashenford gave the Nomads full back the chance to open his legs and score the first of his three tries.

Within 5 minutes he was on the score sheet again after picking up a loose ball inside his own half and outstripping the Drybrook cover defence to score . Not to be outdone Drybrook came more into the game and after several forward drives near the Stroud try line their No 8 crashed over for a try which was converted. With the first half coming to an end, Stroud scored their fourth try after good link play between the backs and forwards 2nd row Lee Marshall was on the end of a try scoring pass.

The second half was as committed as the first with Stroud on the attack from the kick off, and Joe Ashenford showing a clean pair of heels to the Drybrook back row and scoring an excellent try.

Drybrook continued to play open rugby and several good attacks were thwarted by some fine defensive tackling by Sam Leworthy, Tom Flanagan and Rupert Wakefield. Nomads came back into the game through some good interplay once again by their forwards and were rewarded with a good try by prop Phil Fruin converted by Joe Ashenford.

Soon afterwards full back Aaron Raath completed his hat trick of tries after another fine run, again converted. Drybrook were not finished and in the final ten minutes of the game scored two tries one of which was converted.
