The first match of the season was an excellent result for Nomads. An early threequarter movement by the Nomads gave wing James Norbury to show his speed with him outstripping the Pats defence to score his first of five tries. With both sides playing open and attacking rugby Stroud were soon on the scoreboard again when good handling between backs and forwards gave young 2nd row Harvey Mead the chance to score his first try for the club. Nomads backs with centres Lex Brookes and Luke Peer creating good opportunities for their wings and full back Chris Toon taking every chance to join the line, only poor handling prevented further scores. Old Pats using their bigger pack came more into the game and were awarded a penalty kick which was converted. Soon after, a mix up in the Stroud defence allowed Old Pats to pick up a loose ball and give their wing a chance to score their first try which was converted. This reversal shook up Nomads and some excellent forgaging by man of the match wing forward James Morton gave wing Aaron Raath the chance to score a try in the corner. Just before half time 2nd row Lee Marshall came on the field as a substitute, his first taste of rugby since his dislocated ankle last December.
The second half started with a bang with once again James Norbury scything through the Old Pats defence to score his 2nd try. Further good attacking moves by Nomads gave centre Lex Brookes a opportunity to show his skills by dummying through and scoring Stroud's 5th try. . From the resultant kick off the ball was passed to No8 Chris Jones who burst through several would be tacklers and when eventually he was hauled down passed to captain Chris Toon who scored under the posts, converted by scrum half Joe Ashenford. A further score by Stroud was again created by Chris Jones after another bullocking run the ball was moved to wing James Norbury to score his 4th try, again converted. Old Pats never gave up and from an attack deep in their own half backs and forwards linked to score their second try. With the last play of the game Stroud won possession inside their own half and gave James Norbury a chance to outstrip the Old Pats defence and score his 5th try which ended the match.
A fine allround display by a young Nomads side.
