former players return

With a blank weekend for games, Nomads arranged this friendly match with Gordon League. It was nice to see a number of former players returning to the club to play including Rob Sealey, Chris Organ, Jack Williams and Luke Peer.
Nomads played with the slope in the first half and straight from the kick off laid siege to the Gordon League half with the forwards winning plenty of loose ball to give the threequarters ample opportunity to show their skills. On several occasions good breaks made by centres Brendan Wheeler and Cory Baker failed because of lack of support. However, Stroud were not to be denied and after several good drives by the forwards back row Bob(Aussie) Reid crashed over for the first try. Nomads maintained their control of the match and further tries seemed inevitable, but poor passing and wrong options kept the score to just one try. with the half coming to and end the Stroud forwards once again drove to the Gordon League try line where prop Gareth Culpan scored their second try.

The second half was more of an even game with Gordon League pressing hard from the start and were rewarded with a penalty kick. Stroud kept Gordon League at bay with some excellent tackling with back row forwards Tom Flanagan and Bob Reid always in the thick of the action. A good break by centre Brendan Wheeler took play into the Gordon League 22 where scrum half Jordan Phipps was on hand to touch down. Further good passing by both back and forwards led to the Nomads fourth try with prop Lee Geddes on the end of another good attack.
With Stroud continuing to play open rugby it was no surprise to see wing Fred Stephenson make an excellent run to score Nomads fifth try, converted by fly half Luke Peer. With only minutes to play a long run by the Gordon League full back led to their wing scoring in the corner, with the final whistle then ending the match.

This was a good run out for the Nomads with former players being given a good run out.
