With a much changed team Nomads went on the attack from the start with fly half Corey Baker making a couple of excellent breaks which resulted in Spartans straying offside at a ruck and Baker kicking the resulted penalty.
The game remained fairly tight with the Spartans fly half kicking well and giving his side plenty of attacking opportunities, which they eventually took, when a line out near the Nomads line was lost and the Spartans no.8 pounced on the loose ball and scored near the posts, the try being duly converted.
This setback stung the Nomads into action and after an excellent passage of handling by the backs wing Jess Stevens beat three defenders in a mazy run and scored an excellent try converted by Corey Baker. Further good play by newcomer Ethan Tol nearly resulted in another score the final pass being spilt with the line in sight.
At the beginning of the second half Spartans were soon on the attack and were rewarded with two penalty kicks in the first five minutes which were both converted.
Nomads remained under pressure and from a line out near the try line Spartans drove over the line and were awarded the try, this was not converted. With the game slipping from their grasp, Nomads once again upped the tempo with Corey Baker showing the way with several good runs, but once again poor handling let the Nomads down when the try line beckoned. With only minutes to go the Nomads forwards drove over the Spartans line and appeared to ground the ball, the referee however gave a scrum to Spartans and a final chance was lost.
Nomads will look back on this match as a game which could have been won but with several newcomers in the side was a good sign for the future.
