Another great game to watch

This was another hard fought game for Nomads with their opponents being a strong and committed side with an a very quick back division. Unfortunately, the continuity of the game was continually disrupted by penalty offences by both sides and the sin binning of two players from either side during the game.

The Newent side were soon on the attack from the kick off and were awarded a penalty kick for offside, which was duly converted. Both sides attempted to play open rugby with the Newent side always looked dangerous with their threequarters running good lines and making excellent yardage, and from one of these attacks Nomads were again penalised for going offside and the penalty kick was converted. Nomads came back strongly and from good work by 2nd Row Tom Warner who made a strong run through the Newent defence and from the ensuing ruck back row forward Bob Reid scored Stroud's first try, converted by centre Cory Baker. Back came Newent and once again a flowing threequarter movement gave their wing the opportunity to score in the corner, with the conversion succeeding from the touchline. Nomads continued to attack with fly half Ian Bushell marshalling his backs well, and from a short penalty kick it appeared as though full back Jake Marsh had scored a try, only to be ruled out as being held up.

The second half was equally contested with Stroud immediately on the attack and from a well won lineout Tom Warner brushed aside several would be tacklers to score the second try, again converted by Cory Baker. Not to be outdone Newent were soon back on the scoreboard when their No8 strode through some very lax tackling to score, again converted. With both sides then losing players to the sin bin play became very loose with dropped passes and continual penalty awards. However, from one of the penalty kicks full back Jake Marsh was rewarded with a try after good interplay with wing Aaron Raath. With Nomads now looking to score again to hopefully win the match were stung when Newent were awarded a quick penalty kick which was converted . Nomads now went on all out attack and were undone when a loose kiock into the Newent 22 led to their full back cutting g though a static Stroud defence to score a try, which was converted. With time now running out a deflated Stroud side were once again cut open by the Newent backs who scored their final try.

A well contested game by both sides with the final score not giving a true reflection of the whole game. Another fine allround game by wing forward Bob Reid who was awarded Man of Match.

Next match 15th October 2016 to be arranged.
