The first half started slowly with full back Cory Baker kicking an early penalty for Stroud. Berry Hill soon retaliated with a penalty themselves and play remained even until a good break by scrum half Jordan Phipps allowed Cory Baker to score and convert the try. Further good play by the Nomads with their threequarters running good lines giving winger Matt Peachman the opportunity to dive over in the corner for a try.
With the Stroud forwards gaining good ball in open play, Jordan Phipps made an excellent break from halfway and outstripped the Berry Hill defence to score at the posts, Cory Baker converted. Berry Hill came back into the game with their forwards driving over from a short penalty kick. This spurred the Nomads into life and in quick succession good handling and running by both backs and forwards ended in three tries being scored by Jordan Phipps, Tom Flanagan and Harry Phillips, with the Nomads ending the first half well in command.
The second half was more of a dour spectacle with Nomads giving away too many penalty kicks, and allowing Berry Hill to come back into the match, which they did by scoring two tries, one of which was converted. Stroud again came to life and second half tries by young winger Grant Bray-Warner, Cory Baker and Jordan Phipps cemented an excellent win by the Nomads.
A good game by the Nomads, with the tackling much improved, however the penalty count much too high.
Next match at home on Saturday 13th October 2012, ko. 3pm Stroud Nomads v Cheltenham Saracens
