Lydney shading the result through scoring three tries in the first 15 minutes.
Playing the second string outfit of a club three levels higher in the National Leagues, the Nomads contested well and were always looking to run the ball with their backs showing how dangerous they were with the ball in hand. It was no surprise when the Nomads forwards drove into the Lydney half , released their threequarters and wing Alex Powell scored in the corner.
Soon after, further forward pressure gave the backs another chance to run with centre Chris Toon cutting through the Lydney defence and scoring under the posts, the try being converted by fly half Peter Sykes. Almost from the restart Lydney won the ball and their very nippy scrum half raced in from 30metres to score near the posts, the try being converted.
Stroud continued to attack with forwards Gareth Culpan, Sam Davies and Tom Flanagan always in the thick of the action, and after Lydney were penalised for offside, Peter Sykes kicked the resultant penalty.
The second half was end to end with both sides playing entertaining rugby. Lydney were first to score when a Stroud passing movement broke down and the Lydney winger picked up the ball and scored the try, duly converted.
Nomads continued to attack and several good chances went begging, but a superb pick up by scrum half Jordan Phipps on the halfway line and curving run led to him outflanking the Lydney defence and scoring wide out. Further threequarter play gave centre Jacob Marsh the opportunity to cut through the Lydney side and with the line at his mercy a despairing tap tackle stopped him from scoring. With the Nomads camped on the Lydney line the final whistle blew.
