Sunday saw Stroud U9s put in a convincing display against Widden OB. Since the start of the season we have worked on our mantra, "Defence wins games", and it came into full fruition this week. In our first match we went ahead early then through great tackling and pressure caused 3 or 4 defensive turnovers resulting in a 4-1 win.
In the second game Widden scored first from the restart with a great run down the wing. This seemed to jolt Stroud into action and another sterling defensive display allowed us to close the game down - keeping Widden out of scoring range while running in 6 tries ourselves. 6-1 to Stroud.
The final game continued in the vein of the first two, with Stroud, once again, causing numerous turnovers due to excellent defensive pressure. With the ball in hand we, also, looked very strong. A combination of strong running, great support and evasion enabled Stroud to finish the game 6-0 up.
Special mentions go to Will Towers and Tommy Gibbs who's individual tackle counts were off the scale!!
Well done to the Widden side who stuck at it despite our endless supply of fresh legs.
