The Stroud Rugby Under 16s squad consists of approximately 28 players and play on a full size rugby pitch.
Our objective is to continue to develop an understanding of the game and the principles of play (contest possession, go forward, support, continuity and pressure); focusing on the core skills (running, evasion, handling, kicking and tackling) in an environment that builds on the key values of rugby (teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship). The squad faces further new challenges this year - lifting in the line-out (contested!) and changes to the scrum, tackle and ruck laws.
Training sessions are on Sunday mornings - 10.30 to 12.00 and Thursday evenings - 18.00 to 19.00, from September to May and are varied and full of different tasks so that players can develop their skills in ways they find interesting, fun and enjoyable. Our group of qualified volunteer coaches ensure that all players are included in training, encouraging them to have fun but work hard to develop their core skills and be the best they can be.
During the season we also have regular match fixtures and tournaments.
New players are always welcome and can attend a couple of training sessions with no commitment to see if they enjoy it – it’s never too late to join.
