After a postponement last week Nomads travelled to Dursley with their largest squad of the season in terms of numbers with 21 players available

All players played a full part as Dursley were short of players meaning Chris Jones, Mark Phillips and Mark Samak donned the Dursley shirt for the afternoon to make up their back row. Lee and Tom Taylor also played a half each for Dursley to even up the numbers.
1 Lee Marshall 2 Grant Nash 3 Damien Cox 4 Matt Doliczny 5 Adam Clark 6 Cory Baker 7 Tom Quainton 8 Zinzan Cremmins 9 Callum Gibbs 10 Ian Bushall 11 Tom Taylor 12 Jamie Leworthy 13 Ben Wilkes 14 Dom Stephenson 15 Chris Toon 16 Connor Voyce 17 Vegas 18 Lee
Nomads started with a steely determination in defence with Clark, Baker and Quainton making early tackles to prevent any great Dursley gains in ground. The first 10 minutes were fairly even before Nomads won a penalty at the breakdown just outside the Dursley 22m line. Gibbs tapped and spotted space out wide, spreading play to Bushall, who found Wilkes cutting a line and the young centre glided in by the posts. Bushall converted. 7-0.
A solid take at the kick off from Quainton immediately set up another attack. Gibbs and Bushall released Leworthy, who fed Wilkes. Showing pace and balance, he weaved into the opposition 22m before finding Leworthy supporting on the inside to run in under the posts. Nash converted. 14-0.
Jones, Phillips and Samak were getting through more than their fair share of work for Dursley both in defence and also carrying well to test the Nomads defence. Nomads though always held the upper hand and were soon exploiting their superiority in the backs. Leworthy, Toon and Stephenson combined to make good ground up the right, which forced Dursley in to conceding another penalty. Bushall kicked to the corner and an excellent take from Doliczny from Nash’s throw set up a driving maul. Dursley did well to repel the surge but Gibbs released the ball and excellent hands from Toon and Wilkes fond Taylor, who crossed in the corner. 19-0.
Nomads conceded a penalty from the kick-off with Phillips as ever causing disruption at the breakdown. Samak took a quick tap and drove before offloading to Jones. Dursley went route one with a series of pick and goes culminating with a score by the posts. Try converted. 19-7.
Minutes later, Baker won an excellent turnover, which allowed Clark and Nash to pick and drive before Gibbs freed Toon on the right to out-strip the covering defence and ghost in at the corner. 24-7.
Nomads then went through a number of controlled phases with strong carries from Cremmins and Taylor setting up a great position inside the Dursley 22. Bushall found Baker in the wider channels and he committed two tacklers before a great out the back offload found Wilkes to dive in at the corner. 29-7.
Half Time Dursley 2nd XV 7Stroud Nomads 29
Nomads started the second half in similar vein with Clark and Voyce carrying strongly. Although Dursley’s defence was solid through the middle, Nomads continued to exploit gaps out wide with Bushall finding Wilkes, who offloaded in the tackle to Quainton to dummy the final defender and cross out wide. 34-7.
Nomads continued to press with Stephenson coming in off the blindside wing and again releasing Wilkes. This time the final pass to Quainton went to ground however Nomads were now looking like scoring every time the ball went wide.
The next try showed further evidence of Nomads attacking intent. A great take from Quainton at the lineout gave quick ball to Gibbs and Bushall to find Leworthy running a typical powerful line. Good work at the breakdown and quick hands from Marshall and Baker released Wilkes to cruise in from halfway to complete his hat-trick. Nash converted. 41-7.
Dursley always competed and the introduction of a new fly half provided some variation. A swerve and acceleration looked to have took him clear of the Nomads defence however great covering work and a text book tackle by Quainton snuffed out any further threat.
Nomads looked to be away again as Lewothy and Toon combined to release Lee on the right wing. The ball was however lost at the breakdown and an excellent offload released a Dursley forward, who galloped 70m up the touchline before touching down just before the cover could get to him. 41-12.
Nomads pressed to the end but Dursley stifled any further attacks to prevent any further scoring.
Full TimeDursley 2nd XV 12Stroud Nomads 41
A game played in a great spirit with the unusual sight of Nomads attacking fellow Nomads! If Nomads can keep fielding this size and quality of squad there is no reason why they should not continue to climb up the league.
Next Fixture: v Cirencester 2nd XV (Away) Saturday 23 November KO 1430.
