A well drilled Newent side took advantage and put the Nomads under pressure throughout most of the game.
The first quarter of the match was fairly even with Nomads scrum half Joe Ashenford hitting the upright with a penalty attempt, soon after captain Ian Bushell was helped from the field with a knee injury and took no further part in the game.
The Newent forwards then took control of the match and gave their strong threequarters plenty of opportunities to show their pace and three tries were scored and converted in quick time. Further scores were thwarted by excellent tackling by full back Sam Leworthy, Dan Whittaker and hooker Sam Davies. However, not to be denied Newent forwards got into the trying scoring mood and added two further tries before half time.
The second half was much more even although Nomads were on the defensive for much of the half, although winger Alex Powell did manage a couple of good runs which unfortunately came to nothing. With Stroud now under further attack Newent finished the half strongly with two further tries and a comprehensive win.
